Family Engagement Plan (FEP)
Family Engagement Plan
The Family Engagement Plan (FEP) is organized into four impact areas. We will be working together this year to build positive and goal-oriented relationships in each area. Families and staff at school developed this plan together.
Welcoming Environment
Our school has staff member(s) available for families to discuss this plan and ask questions
- Family Liaison: Cassandra Redeagle
- Administration: Dr. Valerie Littles-Butler
Our school communicates with families in many ways.
- Hawk Weekly Newsletter is our electronic newsletter sent every other Sunday with updated information for the upcoming weeks. It is also available on our school website Humboldt.spps.org and sent via email to students and staff.
- Humboldt hosts an “Open House” at the beginning of the school year to welcome families to the new school year and introduce caregivers to teachers, staff, programs, and provide expectations of the new school year.
- Humboldt holds an annual Title 1 meeting to inform caregivers about their school’s participation in Title 1. Parents will be informed of Title 1, and the rights families have to be involved in their children’s education.
- Humboldt HS Parent/Teacher conferences will be held twice during the 2024-2025 school year. Humboldt HS will review the format of Parent/Teacher conferences annually to see if the format meets the needs of parents.
- Humboldt HS utilizes Mass Communication calls/emails/text messages to students’ homes before every parent engagement opportunity. These will be in multiple languages to support bilingual families.
- Humboldt HS teachers keep a call log of their calls that are being made home.
- Humboldt HS utilizes social media Facebook and Instagram to report important information with our families.
- Humboldt HS keeps our website & calendar updated.
- Humboldt HS staff maintains current information on Parent Portal.
- Family liaison is an accessible & supportive resource for families.
- When families call or visit, we do our best to connect them immediately with the person they seek. The expectation is that when a family contacts the school, they will receive a call/email/voicemail within 24 hours.
The achievement gap, or rather the “opportunity gap,” between students of color and white students in Saint Paul Public Schools is unacceptable. Our school is working to change practices and systems by identifying the barriers that make it harder for students of color to succeed and for their families to support their learning. For more about our work on racial equity, contact:
- Dr. Valerie Littles-Butler at 651-293-8900
Transitions between schools can be challenging, and we work to help families as their children start and leave our school. For new students and families, we support the transition by:
- Showcase/Open House for prospective families in the winter.
- Link Crew/WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) new student orientation in fall.
- Continuous Link Crew/WEB events & activities
- Family Liaison serves as a resource to parents and assists families with navigating Humboldt HS
For students and families moving to the next school in their pathway, we support the transition by:
- Humboldt HS Counselors work with each student in their Xello account.
- Humboldt HS’s Achieve Program provides field trips for students to College Fair in the fall of the school year, and Humboldt HS hosts a college fair in the spring of the school year. Both Fairs include representatives from two-year and four-year colleges and universities as well as technical training institutions.
- Humboldt HS students have the option of PSEO coursework in their junior and senior years.
- Humboldt HS’s Achieve Program has a Parent Information Night for the Financial Aid Process for families.
- Humboldt HS offers AVID as an elective course to assist with preparing students for college.
- Humboldt HS offers the College in the Schools Courses and Advanced Placement Courses (AP), which provide a rigorous college preparatory course of studies.
- Humboldt HS has a Career and College Center available to students and families to support the transition to the student’s next pathway.
Family Partnerships
Our school-parent compact establishes the shared responsibility for student success between the school, families, and students. Families and teachers work together to develop the compact.
